There is also a Free plan with one demo project and 10 reports a day. API access sits with the top tier and is paid for in units bought in packages; the dollar price of those packages is not printed on the public pages we read, so we do not invent one. This guide explains what each plan is for, what a “Semrush AI agent” can and cannot do, and works through four scenarios with the arithmetic shown. In two of them an agent costs less. In the other two it is an extra cost or the wrong tool, and we say so.

People who type “Semrush pricing” into Google are close to a decision. A freelancer wants to know whether the entry plan is enough. A small business owner wonders if they need a paid plan at all. An agency lead is choosing between Pro+ and Advanced because a client asked for a report the cheaper plan does not produce. The pricing page answers part of that question. It tells you what each tier costs and what limits it has. It does not tell you how much of the work around the tool you will still be doing by hand every week.

This article covers both halves. First, what Semrush charges, taken only from Semrush’s own pages on the day we checked. Second, the recurring work that sits on top of any SEO tool: checking, comparing, writing up, and turning findings into tasks. Third, a cost comparison between buying a bigger Semrush plan and handing some of that work to an AI agent such as Katteb, under scenarios we state up front so you can check the numbers yourself.

What does Semrush cost in October 2026?

All prices below were read on semrush.com/pricing/seo-ai-search on 10 October 2026, in US dollars, before tax, for one user. The monthly figure for Advanced is shown on the page as the price the yearly rate replaces, without cents, so treat it as approximate. Add-ons listed on the same page: extra users “starting at $45/mo”, Lead Generation at $90 a month, Base Report at $10 a month and Pro Report at $20 a month.

What about the Semrush API?

Semrush’s knowledge base describes the Standard API (Analytics and Projects APIs) as an add-on for its top business tier. You upgrade, the unit balance starts at zero, and you buy units in packages of 2,000,000, 5,000,000, 10,000,000 or 20,000,000. Units renew with the plan and unused units expire. The developer documentation prices each call in units, not dollars. For example, the Keyword Overview report for one database costs 10 units per line, or 50 units per line for historical data. Semrush’s own worked example, 500 keywords for each of 50 domains with a year-ago comparison, comes to 1,500,000 units.

What we could not find on any public Semrush page we read is the dollar price of a unit package. That matters for this article, because it means we cannot honestly put a dollar figure on an API scenario. Where an API comparison appears below, we count units and stop there.

What is a Semrush AI agent?

“Semrush AI agent” can mean three different things, and it helps to separate them before comparing prices.

Semrush’s own AI features. AI visibility tracking, AI-ready Site Audit and the MCP access listed on Starter and above. These live inside Semrush and are paid for with your plan.

A script on the Semrush API. A developer pulls rows into a database or dashboard on a schedule. It is fast and exact, and it needs a top-tier plan, a unit package and someone to maintain it.

A browser agent that uses your Semrush account the way you do. You give it a goal, it signs in once, opens the reports you would open, reads them, cross-checks Google Search Console, and writes the result where you want it. Katteb is this third kind.

One point needs to be clear: a browser agent does not give you Semrush data you have not paid for. It works inside the limits of your plan. If your plan allows 10 reports a day, the agent gets 10 reports a day. What it changes is who does the clicking, comparing and writing up.

Which jobs suit an agent, and which do not?

The keyword cannibalization problem is a good example of the difference. Semrush puts its cannibalization report in Pro+. But the check itself has a simple shape that does not need a large tool. You list the pages on your site that target the same idea, ask Google which page it prefers for that query, look at which pages actually get impressions in Search Console, and decide per cluster whether to merge, redirect or re-angle. That shape — corpus first, Google second, decision third — is the kind of repetitive, judgement-light work an agent can carry out every month.

1. Monthly cannibalization review

The agent reads your sitemap, groups pages by the topic in their titles, runs a site-restricted search for each topic, and pulls the Search Console queries for each URL. It returns a table of clusters where two or more pages compete, with a suggested action for each. You approve the actions. Nothing is redirected without you.

2. Weekly rank and visibility note

If you already track keywords in Semrush, the agent opens Position Tracking every Monday, notes the biggest winners and losers, checks whether a change lines up with something on your site, and writes a five-line summary to email or Telegram. The data is Semrush’s. The writing up is the agent’s.

3. From keyword list to content brief

Given a seed, the agent runs Keyword Magic, filters for commercial or transactional intent, removes keywords you already rank for, and turns the best three into briefs with headings, questions to answer and internal links to existing pages. This is the job we use for this blog.

4. Site Audit triage

Site Audit reports hundreds of issues and most teams never act on them. The agent sorts issues by pages affected and by how likely they are to matter, then turns the top ten into plain-language tickets for whoever edits the site.

5. Competitor watch

Once a month the agent checks two or three competitors’ top pages and new keywords, and writes down only what changed. You get a short list instead of a dashboard you have to interpret.

6. Checking AI answers by hand

Semrush tracks AI prompts on Starter and above. An agent can also ask the assistants directly, in a browser, a fixed list of questions about your category, and record whether your brand is named and which page is cited. It is slower than a tracker and not a replacement for one, but it costs no extra Semrush quota.

Hand the SEO routine to an agent

Describe the job in one sentence, for example “every Monday, check my Semrush Position Tracking and Search Console, list pages competing for the same query and send me a table with a suggested fix for each”. Katteb plans it, runs it in a real browser and reports back.

Start my SEO agent

When an agent is the wrong tool

You need large, exact data exports on a schedule for a product or a client dashboard. That is what the API is for.

You need daily tracking of thousands of keywords across locations. Buy the tracking; an agent cannot create rank data.

The decision is strategic and rare, such as a site migration. A person with context should own it.

What does Katteb cost?

From katteb.com/pricing on 10 October 2026, billed in US dollars:

Plan

Monthly

Yearly

What it includes

Lite

$19

$190

1 agent working on a goal every day, week or month; 30 hours of agent time a week; sites signed in once; a Katteb inbox; daily reports; 1 user

Business

$99

$990

10 agents, each on its own goal; 120 hours of agent time a week; schedules every hour, day, week or month; up to 5 agents at once; 3 users

Semrush plan versus agent: four scenarios with the arithmetic

Assumptions for every scenario: US dollars, list prices read on 10 October 2026, before tax, one user, no extra Semrush users or add-ons. A “month” is a calendar billing month. Where we put a value on time, we use $30 an hour as an illustrative staff cost; change it to your own number and the conclusions move with it. We use the word “less” only where the subtraction supports it.

Scenario A: one website, no need for daily rank tracking

Who: the owner of a single business site who wants a monthly keyword check, a cannibalization review and a short report, and does not need 500 keywords tracked every day.

Option 1: Semrush SEO plan billed monthly = $139.95 a month.

Option 2: Semrush Free ($0) for occasional lookups, plus Search Console ($0), plus Katteb Lite = $19 a month.

Difference: $139.95 − $19 = $120.95 a month less with option 2.

Yearly: SEO billed yearly $1,407.96 versus Katteb Lite yearly $190 = $1,217.96 less.

The limit: Semrush Free allows one demo project and 10 reports a day. If you need Position Tracking on a real project or a full Site Audit every week, option 2 does not cover you and this scenario does not apply.

Scenario B: an agency that needs Pro+ anyway

Who: an agency with 12 client sites that needs historical data and multi-location tracking. Only Pro+ or above fits.

Semrush Pro+ alone = $299 a month.

Pro+ plus Katteb Lite = $318 a month, so the agent is an extra $19 a month, about 6.4% on top of the plan ($19 ÷ $299).

Break-even at $30 an hour: $19 ÷ $30 = 0.63 hours, about 38 minutes of saved work a month.

With Katteb Business ($99) for several client goals: $99 ÷ $30 = 3.3 hours a month to break even.

Here Katteb is not a saving on software. It is a cost that pays for itself only if it removes reporting or triage time, which you can measure in the first month.

Scenario C: dropping from Pro+ to Starter because of one report

Who: a team on Pro+ mainly because of the keyword cannibalization report, with five sites and fewer than 500 tracked keywords.

Pro+ billed monthly = $299. Starter billed monthly + Katteb Lite = $199 + $19 = $218.

Difference: $299 − $218 = $81 a month less.

Billed yearly: Pro+ $2,978.04 versus Starter $1,982.04 + Katteb $190 = $2,172.04, so $806 a year less.

What you give up: ten more websites, 1,000 more tracked keywords, historical data, content optimization and multi-location tracking. If you use any of those, stay on Pro+ and treat the agent as scenario B.

Scenario D: a developer feeding a dashboard

Who: a developer who wants 200 keywords’ current metrics every month and the top 500 keywords of 20 competitors.

Keyword Overview: 200 lines × 10 units = 2,000 units.

Competitor keywords: 20 domains × 500 lines × 10 units = 100,000 units.

Total about 102,000 units a month, well inside the smallest 2,000,000-unit package.

We stop at units. The package price is not printed on Semrush’s public pricing or help pages we read on 10 October 2026, and guessing would make the comparison worthless. An agent is not the right answer here anyway: a dashboard needs a data feed, and the API is the data feed.

Five questions to answer before you upgrade

Which report made you look at the next tier? If it is one report, check whether its job can be done another way, as in scenario C.

How many sites and keywords do you really track? Count them. Many teams pay for limits they never reach.

Who reads the data every week? If the answer is “nobody, really”, more data will not help. Someone, or something, has to turn it into actions.

Do you need rows or decisions? Rows point to the API. Decisions point to people or an agent.

What is an hour of your time worth? Put your own number into the break-even lines above.

How to set up a Semrush goal in Katteb

Open Katteb chat and describe the outcome, not the clicks: “Keep my blog free of pages competing for the same keyword and send me a monthly fix list.”

Sign in to Semrush and Google Search Console once in the agent’s browser when it asks. Katteb remembers the sign-in for later runs.

Choose how often it should run: monthly for cannibalization, weekly for rankings.

Read the first report and correct it. Tell it which suggestions were wrong and why; it keeps notes for the next run.

After a month, compare the hours you spent on SEO admin before and after. That number decides whether the agent stays.

Common mistakes

Upgrading for a feature you will open once a quarter. Check scenario C first.

Comparing an agent to the API on price alone. They do different jobs. The API delivers rows; an agent delivers finished work from the rows your plan already allows.

Letting an agent change the site without review. Redirects and merges should always go through a person.

Forgetting the annual discount. Semrush’s yearly billing changes every number in this article by up to 17%.

FAQ

How much is Semrush per month?

On 10 October 2026, billed monthly: SEO $139.95, Starter $199, Pro+ $299 and Advanced about $549. Billed yearly the monthly equivalents were $117.33, $165.17, $248.17 and $455.67.

Is there a free Semrush plan?

Yes. The Free plan costs $0 and includes one demo project and 10 reports a day across core tools, with no card required.

Which Semrush plan includes keyword cannibalization analysis?

Pro+ lists keyword cannibalization analysis among its features. Starter and SEO do not.

Does the Semrush API cost extra?

API access is tied to the top tier and units are bought in packages of 2 to 20 million. Calls are priced in units, for example 10 units per line for Keyword Overview. The dollar price of packages was not shown on the public pages we read.

Can an AI agent replace Semrush?

No. An agent uses the data your Semrush plan, Search Console and Google already give you. It can replace hours of checking and writing up, and sometimes it can let you stay on a smaller plan. If you want to try that on your own site, start a Semrush goal in Katteb.

The short version

Semrush is priced by limits: sites, keywords, prompts and data depth. Katteb is priced by agent time. The cheapest setup is the one that buys only the limits you use and hands the repetitive reading and reporting to something that does not get bored. For a single site that may be Semrush Free plus an agent. For an agency it is the right Semrush plan plus an agent that turns its reports into work.

Try it on your own site

Tell Katteb what you want from your SEO each week, connect your accounts once, and read the first report tomorrow morning.

Start in Katteb chat

Semrush pricing in October 2026: SEO $139.95, Starter $199, Pro+ $299 and Advanced about $549 a month (or $117.33 to $455.67 billed yearly), how API units work, and four worked scenarios showing when a Semrush AI agent costs less and when it is an extra cost.

[3

post-602","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-guides
["GET
