On 16 October 2026 the SerpApi pricing page listed month-to-month plans in US dollars: Free with 250 searches, Starter $25 for 1,000, Developer $75 for 5,000, Production $150 for 15,000, Big Data $275 for 30,000, and larger tiers such as Searcher $725 for 100,000. Only successful searches count. That works out between 2.5 cents and about 0.6 cents per search. SerpApi gives you the results page; it does not open the pages behind the links, read them or write the brief. Below are six priced scenarios in US dollars, list price, before tax, with the arithmetic shown.

Someone searching “serpapi pricing” usually has a number in mind already: a keyword list to track, a research tool to feed, or an app feature that needs live Google results. What they want to know is which plan holds that number and what each search really costs. SerpApi makes that easier than most vendors, because every plan is a flat monthly price for a fixed number of searches, with no annual contract on the public page. The traps are elsewhere: in what counts as a search, in what happens when you run out mid-month, and in the gap between a results page and an answer.

This guide covers all three. It lists the plans as they appeared on the day we checked, turns them into a cost per search, prices six jobs, and for each one asks whether an agent such as Katteb, which searches and then reads the pages like a person, is the better fit, an addition, or simply the wrong tool.

Need answers from search, not JSON?

Tell Katteb the question, for example “every Monday, search my 20 main keywords, read the top three results for each, and tell me what the leaders changed”. It searches, reads and writes the report.

Describe my search job to Katteb

What does SerpApi return, and what does it leave out?

A search API can mean three different products, and mixing them up is the most common reason people are disappointed with what they bought.

Kind

Where results come from

Gives you positions

Gives you page text

Typical use

Results-page mirror (SerpApi)

A live search engine results page

Yes

No

Rank tracking, SERP features, ads

Independent index

The vendor’s own crawl

No

Sometimes

Retrieval for AI, research

Search plus read-through

Search, then fetch each page

Rarely

Yes

Answering a question in one step

SerpApi is the first kind. For a Google query it returns the organic results with their positions, plus whatever else Google placed on the page that day: ads, the answer box, the knowledge graph, People Also Ask, local results, shopping results, images. It supports many engines beyond Google Search, including Bing and Google’s vertical products, through separate endpoints.

That makes it excellent for two halves of SEO work. The tracking half is the position of a URL for a query over time. The analysis half is the shape of the page around it: whether an AI answer or a People Also Ask block appeared, which competitors bought ads, which features push organic results down. What SerpApi does not give you is the text of the pages behind each link. If you want to know why the page in position one is winning, someone still has to open it and read it.

Two details that affect tracking

Blocks come and go by query. A feature present today may be absent tomorrow for the same keyword. Code that assumes a block exists will fail on some inputs; code that treats a missing block as “Google shows none” will misreport on a rerun. Store presence as data.

Rank is relative to what you count. A result can keep its organic position while sliding down the visible page as new blocks appear above it. Store the organic position and the overall position separately if the response gives you both.

SerpApi pricing on 16 October 2026

Prices below are as listed on the SerpApi pricing page on 16 October 2026, in US dollars per month, with the speed mode set to the default “Best Effort”. It is an agent that runs searches, opens the pages it finds in a real browser, reads them and writes what you asked for: a brief, a comparison, a list of changes. So the honest comparison is not “price per search” but “price per finished piece of work”, and it only applies when the finished work is what you need.

Turn search results into a brief

Katteb Lite is $19 a month. That fits inside the Free plan’s 250.

Result: SerpApi costs $0. Katteb would be $19 a month extra, and only makes sense if the weekly report it writes on top (what moved, which competitor page overtook you and what it changed) saves more than 38 minutes of your time a month at $30 an hour ($19 ÷ $30 × 60).

Scenario B: 200 keywords, weekly or daily

Frequency

Searches / month

Smallest plan that fits

Price / month

Weekly

≈ 867 (200 × 52 ÷ 12)

Starter (1,000)

$25

Daily

6,000 (200 × 30)

Production (15,000)

$150

Daily, on Developer with one early renewal

6,000

Developer × 2 (10,000)

$150

Result: going from weekly to daily tracking costs $125 a month more ($150 − $25). For daily tracking, Production and a twice-renewed Developer plan both cost $150; Production gives 15,000 searches and higher throughput for the same money, so it is the better buy unless you expect to drop back. No Katteb comparison: storing 6,000 positions a month is an API job.

Scenario C: running out on Starter, renew or upgrade?

A team on Starter sometimes needs more than 1,000 searches. With Automatic Early Renewal on, each extra 1,000 costs another $25. Against upgrading to Developer ($75 for 5,000):

Searches needed

Starter with renewals

Developer

Difference

2,000

$50 (2 × $25)

$75

Starter $25 less

3,000

$75 (3 × $25)

$75

Equal

4,000

$100 (4 × $25)

$75

Developer $25 less

5,000

$125 (5 × $25)

$75

Developer $50 less

Result: renewing Starter is the lower cost up to 2,000 searches, equal at 3,000, and Developer is lower from 4,000. Two caveats: early renewal moves your renewal date, and Starter’s throughput (200 searches an hour) may matter for large batches.

Scenario D: a content team writing 40 briefs a month

A content team writes 40 briefs a month. For each, a writer runs about 10 searches (the main keyword, variations, questions) and reads the leading pages. That is about 400 searches, more than Free allows, so SerpApi means Starter at $25. The searches are the small part: someone still opens the top results and turns them into a brief.

Result: Katteb Lite at $19 is $6 a month less than Starter alone ($25 − $19). That holds only if what the team needs is the finished brief, not the raw JSON, positions or SERP-feature data, and if the briefs fit inside Lite’s 30 hours of agent time a week. If the team already has a tool built on SerpApi’s JSON, Katteb does not replace it; it would be $19 a month on top, worth it only if it saves more than 38 minutes of reading and writing a month.

Scenario E: an app feature with 100,000 searches

A product shows live Google results inside an app, about 100,000 searches a month.

Option

Calculation

Price / month

Searcher plan

100,000 included

$725

Big Data with renewals

4 × $275 (120,000 searches)

$1,100

Production with renewals

7 × $150 (105,000 searches)

$1,050

Result: Searcher is $375 a month less than renewing Big Data four times ($1,100 − $725). This is an API job from end to end, and we do not compare Katteb.

Scenario F: tracking plus a weekly analysis

An agency keeps its daily rank tracking on SerpApi Production (Scenario B, $150) and wants a weekly written analysis for the client: which pages gained, what the winners changed, which new SERP features appeared. The tracking data says what moved; the analysis needs someone to open the pages and say why.

Result: SerpApi Production plus Katteb Lite is $169 a month ($150 + $19). Katteb here is an addition. At $30 an hour it breaks even if it saves more than 38 minutes a month; four weekly analyses that each take an analyst an hour would clear that, and one short note a month might not.

Annual billing

The public pricing page shows month-to-month plans only; we found no annual SerpApi price to compare. Twelve months of Starter is $300 a year at list price. Katteb Lite on annual billing is $190 a year against $228 paid monthly, $38 less. Those are different products, so the annual figures are context, not a like-for-like comparison.

When SerpApi on its own is the right choice

You need positions and SERP features stored over time.

Software, not a person, consumes the results.

You need volume and speed: thousands of searches an hour.

You need a specific engine, location or device, set exactly by parameter.

When an agent fits better

The deliverable is prose: a brief, a competitor summary, a list of what changed and why.

Each search leads to pages that need reading, and the reading is where the hours go.

The volume is tens or hundreds of searches a month, not thousands a day.

Nobody on the team wants to build and maintain the code that turns JSON into a report.

How to size a SerpApi plan in five minutes

Multiply keywords × locations × devices × checks a month. That is your search count.

Add a margin for re-runs; failed and cached searches do not count, so 10% is usually enough.

Pick the smallest plan above that number, then check the hourly throughput against your largest batch.

If you are near a boundary, compare early renewals with the next plan using the table in Scenario C.

Separate the reading work from the searching work, and price the reading against an agent before you build it.

Frequently asked questions

Is SerpApi free?

There is a Free plan with 250 searches a month and a throughput of 50 an hour, as listed on 16 October 2026.

Do failed searches count?

No. According to the pricing FAQ, only successful searches count; cached, errored and failed searches do not.

Does asking for 100 results cost more?

No. A response counts as one search however many results it returns.

Can Katteb replace SerpApi?

Not for rank tracking, SERP-feature data or anything software consumes at volume. For research that ends in a written answer, at tens or hundreds of searches a month, Katteb Lite at $19 a month can do the searching and the reading, as priced in Scenario D.

Sources and date checked

SerpApi pricing page (plans, all-plans table, FAQ on counting, renewal and refunds), read 16 October 2026.

Katteb pricing, read 16 October 2026.

Monid guide on SERP APIs for AI agents, used for structure only.

The short version

SerpApi pricing is simple: a monthly plan buys a fixed number of successful searches, from 2.5 cents each on Starter down to under a cent at volume, with early renewal as the overflow.
