KWFinder AI Agent: Mangools vs Ahrefs on price and what an SEO agent adds, Katteb featured image

TL;DR. Mangools, the maker of KWFinder, charged $61, $81 or $141 a month on 9 October 2026 for Basic, Premium and Agency, or $452.40, $632.40 and $1,172.40 a year. API and MCP access is included in every plan. Ahrefs charged $129 a month for Lite, $249 for Standard and $449 for Advanced, with API and MCP access starting on Lite. KWFinder is the cheaper way to do keyword research and light link checks. Ahrefs goes deeper on the link graph. Neither tool does the work its data points to: writing the brief, fixing the page, sending the report. This guide compares the two on price and fit, then shows in three stated scenarios when adding an SEO agent such as Katteb pays for itself and when it is only an extra cost.

“Mangools vs Ahrefs” is one of the most common comparisons in SEO tooling, and it is usually framed as cheap versus complete. That framing is half right. KWFinder was built for one job, finding keywords you can realistically rank for. Ahrefs was built around a crawler and a backlink index and grew into a full suite. If you mostly need the first job, paying for the second is waste. If you need the link graph, the cheaper tool will leave gaps.

There is also a third question that the usual comparison skips. Both tools now offer an API and an MCP server, so an AI assistant can query them directly. That makes it possible to build a “KWFinder AI agent” that turns keyword data into finished work. This article covers what that means, what it costs, and where it is not worth it. All prices are in US dollars, before tax, and were read from the vendors’ own pricing pages on 9 October 2026.

What does Mangools (KWFinder) cost?

Mangools sells one bundle with five tools: KWFinder, SERPChecker, SERPWatcher, LinkMiner and SiteProfiler. Since 2026 it also includes AI Search Watcher Pro. You do not buy KWFinder on its own. The plans differ by daily lookups and seats.

Basic Premium Agency
Monthly billing $61 / month $81 / month $141 / month
Yearly billing $452.40 / year ($37.70 / month) $632.40 / year ($52.70 / month) $1,172.40 / year ($97.70 / month)
Keyword research lookups 100 per 24h 500 per 24h 1,200 per 24h

Source: mangools.com/plans-and-pricing, read on 9 October 2026 with both the Annually and Monthly toggles. The asterisk on “Unlimited” is Mangools’ own.

The Mangools API page says you can create a free account and get an API token without a card. The API gives you keyword suggestions with volume history, CPC and difficulty, SERPs, rank tracking, LinkMiner backlinks, SiteProfiler domain data and AI Search Watcher monitors. The pricing page lists the daily limits per paid plan. It does not list a separate API price, so we read API usage as drawing on the same plan limits. Check your account’s limits page before you build on that assumption.

What does Ahrefs cost?

From ahrefs.com/pricing on 9 October 2026, as covered in detail in our Ahrefs AI agent guide:

Ahrefs plan Monthly billing Yearly billing
Free (sites you own and verify) $0 $0
Starter $29 / month –
Lite $129 / month $1,290 / year
Standard $249 / month $2,490 / year
Advanced $449 / month $4,490 / year
Enterprise $1,499 / month, annual commitment only –

API and MCP access starts on Lite. Every Ahrefs API request costs at least 50 units, according to Ahrefs’ API documentation.

Mangools vs Ahrefs: the real difference

What KWFinder is for

KWFinder answers one question well: which keywords can this site realistically win? You enter a seed or a competitor domain and get suggestions with search volume, trend, CPC and a 0-100 difficulty score built from the current top ten. The SERP preview beside it shows who ranks and how strong they are. For a small site, a freelancer or a content team planning articles, that is most of the job.

What Ahrefs adds

Ahrefs adds depth on links and on the whole site. That means a large backlink index with history, referring-domain growth and loss, a site crawler with technical audits, content explorer, and broad competitor traffic estimates. If your work is link building, digital PR, or auditing large sites, those are not extras. They are the job.

Why the usual comparison misses the point

Most comparisons line up features and stop. The cost that matters is the cost per finished outcome: a brief that becomes a published article, a lost link that gets reclaimed, a ranking drop that gets explained to a client. Both tools stop at the data. Someone still has to open the CMS, rewrite the page, email the site owner and write the report. That someone is either a person paid by the hour or an agent.

Need KWFinder (Mangools) Ahrefs Agent on top
Keyword ideas and difficulty Strong, cheap Strong Turns them into briefs
Backlink research Good for light checks (LinkMiner) Deeper index and history Writes the outreach, logs replies
Rank tracking Included, weekly or daily by plan Included Explains drops, opens the pages
Site audit SiteProfiler overview Full crawler Fixes the simple issues in your CMS
Price to start $61 / month $129 / month for API access Katteb Lite $19 / month

What a KWFinder AI agent can do

A “KWFinder AI agent” is not a product Mangools sells. It is an agent that uses KWFinder data, through the API, the MCP server or the web app in a signed-in browser, and then does the next step. Six jobs where that helps:

1. Weekly keyword briefs

Every Monday, pull ten new low-difficulty keywords around your topics, group them by intent, and write a one-page brief for each with the questions searchers ask.

2. Cannibalisation checks

Compare tracked keywords against your published URLs and flag pairs of pages competing for the same query, with a suggested merge or redirect.

3. Rank-drop explanations

When SERPWatcher shows a drop, open the SERP, see who moved up and what changed on their page, and write two sentences a client can understand.

4. Content refreshes

Find posts slipping from positions 4-10, read them, and update the outdated sections in WordPress as drafts for a human to approve.

5. Link prospect lists

Use LinkMiner on a competitor, filter to sites that link to several competitors but not to you, and collect a contact route for each.

6. Client reporting

Collect rankings, new keywords and links each week and send one short report in the client’s language.

Turn keyword data into finished SEO work

Describe the job in one sentence, for example “every Monday, find ten new low-difficulty keywords for my blog and draft a brief for each”. Katteb plans it, runs it in a real browser and reports back.

What does Katteb cost?

From katteb.com/pricing on 9 October 2026, billed in US dollars, before tax:

Plan Monthly Yearly What it includes
Lite $19 $190 1 agent on your goal every day, week or month; 30 hours of agent time a week; 1 user
Business $99 $990 10 agents, each on its own goal; 120 hours of agent time a week; hourly schedules; 3 users
Enterprise From $1,000 / month Custom Unlimited agents, white-label dashboard

Katteb does not resell Mangools or Ahrefs data. The agent uses your own subscription in a browser signed into your account, or the free tools that the job allows.

Three cost scenarios, with every assumption shown

Assumptions for all three: US dollars, one month, list prices read on 9 October 2026, before tax, one user unless stated, monthly billing unless stated. Staff time is valued at $30 an hour where it appears. Setup time is not counted. We assume Katteb work fits inside the plan’s weekly agent time.

Scenario A: a freelancer choosing a keyword tool

A freelancer does keyword research for three small clients. That is about 40 lookups on a busy day, 150 tracked keywords with weekly updates, and occasional backlink checks. Basic covers it (100 lookups a day, 200 tracked keywords, 100k backlink rows a month). Ahrefs’ cheapest plan with API access is Lite.

Option Monthly billing Yearly billing
Mangools Basic $61 $452.40
Ahrefs Lite $129 $1,290
Difference $129 − $61 = $68 a month less with Mangools $1,290 − $452.40 = $837.60 a year less with Mangools

For this workload, Mangools Basic costs $68 a month less ($816 a year on monthly billing). This holds only if the freelancer does not need Ahrefs’ deeper backlink history or full site crawler.

Scenario B: the same freelancer adds an agent

The freelancer now wants the briefs written and the weekly client reports sent. Done by hand, we assume that takes 6 hours a month, which at $30 an hour is $180.

Option Monthly cost
Ahrefs Lite + 6 staff hours $129 + $180 = $309
Mangools Basic + 6 staff hours $61 + $180 = $241
Mangools Basic + Katteb Lite (agent does the 6 hours) $61 + $19 = $80

Under these assumptions, Mangools Basic plus Katteb Lite costs $161 a month less than Mangools Basic done by hand ($241 − $80), and $229 less than Ahrefs Lite done by hand ($309 − $80). The figure depends entirely on the 6 hours. If the agent saves less than 0.63 hours a month ($19 ÷ $30), Katteb Lite does not pay for itself. A person still needs to review the briefs before they go to a client.

Scenario C: an agency that needs the link graph

An agency runs link-building for ten clients and depends on backlink history and referring-domain trends. Mangools is not enough here, and the agency needs Ahrefs Standard at minimum. It also wants ten separate agent goals, one per client.

Option Monthly billing
Ahrefs Standard $249
Ahrefs Standard + Katteb Business $249 + $99 = $348

Katteb is an extra cost of $99 a month here, not a saving. It is worth it only if the agents save more than 3.3 hours of staff time a month ($99 ÷ $30). For an agency with ten clients that is a low bar, but it is a judgement the agency has to check against its own timesheets. We do not claim a saving we cannot show.

When you do not need an agent at all

  • You do keyword research a few times a month and act on it yourself.
  • Your site is small enough that one person reviews everything anyway.
  • The output must be written in a voice only you can write in.
  • You have no recurring SEO work, only a one-off audit.

In those cases, choose between Mangools and Ahrefs on data needs alone, using the tables above.

How to choose in five questions

  1. Do you need backlink history and a full site crawler? If yes, Ahrefs. If no, Mangools.
  2. How many keyword lookups do you run on your busiest day? Match it to Mangools’ daily limits.
  3. How many keywords do you track, and do you need daily updates? Daily starts on Mangools Agency.
  4. How many hours a month go into turning the data into work? Multiply by your hourly rate.
  5. Is that figure more than an agent plan? If it is, test an agent on one recurring job for two weeks.

Setting up an SEO goal in Katteb

  1. Write the outcome, not the steps: “publish two articles a week on low-difficulty keywords from KWFinder”.
  2. Name the accounts the agent should use: your Mangools login, WordPress and Search Console.
  3. Set the rhythm: daily, weekly or monthly.
  4. Say what needs your approval before it goes live.
  5. Read the first daily report and adjust the goal in one sentence.

Common mistakes

  • Buying Ahrefs for keyword research alone. Scenario A shows the cost gap.
  • Trusting one difficulty score. KWFinder and Ahrefs measure difficulty differently. Read the SERP before you commit.
  • Ignoring daily limits. Mangools limits reset every 24 hours. Bulk jobs should be spread out.
  • Letting an agent publish unreviewed. Start with drafts.
  • Counting the tool but not the hours. The labour usually costs more than either subscription.

FAQ

Is Mangools cheaper than Ahrefs?

At list prices on 9 October 2026, yes. Mangools Basic was $61 a month and Ahrefs Lite $129. They do not cover the same depth of link data, though, so compare on the features you need.

Does KWFinder have an API?

Yes. Mangools offers a REST API and an MCP server covering KWFinder, SERPChecker, SERPWatcher, LinkMiner, SiteProfiler and AI Search Watcher. Its plans page lists “API & MCP included” on every plan.

Can an AI agent use KWFinder for me?

Yes, through the API or in a browser signed into your Mangools account. A Katteb agent does the second, then carries the work through to briefs, drafts and reports. You can describe a goal on Katteb to try it.

Where did these prices come from?

From mangools.com/plans-and-pricing, ahrefs.com/pricing and katteb.com/pricing, all read on 9 October 2026, in USD and before tax. Check them again before you buy.

The bottom line

For keyword research, KWFinder gives you most of what Ahrefs gives for about half the price. For link-graph work, Ahrefs is worth the premium. Either way, the subscription is the smaller part of the cost. The hours spent turning data into pages and reports are the larger part, and that is where an agent can help, if the arithmetic for your own hours says so.
